The Navy Yard continues to see steady investment and job growth, with recent announcements reinforcing its role as a major employment center in Philadelphia.
At a recent press conference, Governor Josh Shapiro joined leaders to announce an expansion by Urban Outfitters (URBN), a longtime Navy Yard tenant. The company plans to invest at least $150 million and create 450 new jobs at its headquarters on campus, alongside additional hiring tied to a new facility in Bucks County.
URBN has grown significantly since relocating to the Navy Yard in 2006, expanding to 15 buildings and more than 2,500 employees. Recent reporting from the Philadelphia Inquirer highlights that trajectory, including the opening of a new 117,000-square-foot photo studio and continued investment in facilities that support the company’s operations and brand growth. The profile also underscores URBN’s long-term commitment to the Navy Yard as it continues to expand.
Growth at the Navy Yard extends beyond URBN. Pomiager, based in Bologna, Italy, is establishing its U.S. headquarters on campus, focused on data organization and technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and blockchain. HKA Enterprises has also expanded its presence, supporting workforce needs at Hanwha Philly Shipyard, where increased shipbuilding activity is driving additional hiring and investment.
This range of activity reflects the Navy Yard’s unique mix of uses, from corporate headquarters to advanced manufacturing and technology. Companies continue to locate and grow on campus because of its modern infrastructure and ability to support different types of operations in one place.
Recent expansions and new tenants demonstrate continued confidence in the Navy Yard as a place to invest, grow, and innovate. As companies scale their operations, they create jobs and strengthen the campus’s role as a major economic engine for Greater Philadelphia.
