Guest post by Tri-State Velo. Tri-State Velo will be hosting its Philadelphia Navy Yard Criterium on Saturday, April 19th, offering a great opportunity for new and experienced cyclists to race in the wonderful city of Philadelphia. The club is very excited to be returning for the 4th consecutive year to the picturesque Navy Yard! The 2014 edition will have nine separate races for entry level men and women, junior boys and girls between 15 and 18, as well as categories for masters riders and elite riders up to the professional level for both men and women. The races take place on a 0.90 mile closed course on well maintained streets within The Navy Yard. With easy access from US I-95, ample parking, and a fantastic food truck on site, cyclists from throughout the region can spend the day and enjoy some fantastic racing.
Criterium racing is a fast paced, spectator friendly, and technically challenging form of competitive cycling where all competitors in a specific event will start together. This type of mass start event is won by the racer who crosses the finish line first, and is based solely on finishing position and not on time. This leads to very exciting racing for both the participants and the viewers, since the riders are passing by often, and it is a very tactical event.
Tri-State Velo is a 20-year-old Philadelphia-based cycling club focused on both grassroots and elite cycling development in the region. The club promotes several events in the Philadelphia area yearly, and participates in local, regional, and national level events throughout the cycling season.
