Momentum is building on South Broad Street
We’re proud to share that $1.3 million in grant funding from Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Multimodal Transportation Fund has been secured to support construction of critical multimodal improvements along the South Broad Street entrance, a key gateway to the Navy Yard. This investment represents an important step forward in fully funding the approximately $14M+ construction project and moving the project from design into implementation.
Earlier this year, we shared our vision for Reimagining South Broad Street as a safer, more efficient, and more welcoming corridor for employees, visitors, and neighbors alike. With design currently underway, this latest award ensures we can translate that vision into visible, on-the-ground progress.
Advancing Design With a Focus on Traffic & Access
Engineering and design work is actively progressing with a clear goal: improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and strengthen connectivity for all users — drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and transit riders.
We are working closely with Navy Yard employers and stakeholders to ensure the improvements support workforce access and minimize disruption.
These enhancements are not just infrastructure upgrades, they are investments in economic vitality, reliability, and long-term growth. Access and infrastructure upgrades will be critical to realize the growth anticipated from the 2022 Navy Yard Plan and the recent announcements of expanding the shipbuilding and maritime industry at the Navy Yard.
Looking Ahead
This $1.3 million award from DCED represents a major milestone in fully funding the construction phase of this project, which is planned to start as early as 2027. Stay tuned Development Updates for additional updates as design progresses and construction timelines are finalized.
Step by step, Broad Street is evolving into a gateway that reflects the energy, innovation, and growth happening throughout the Navy Yard.
