Nava Yoga Center is a new yoga studio at The Navy Yard, located in Vincera Institute’s newly renovated Building 489 at 1200 Constitution Ave. Co-founders Biz Magarity & Kayla Fell are passionate about providing authentic, accessible yoga conveniently located for Navy Yard employees and the local South Philadelphia neighborhood. Nava offers a full schedule of vinyasa (flow), heated, yin yoga, and specialty classes starting at 6:00 am through to 7:15 pm on weekdays.

Nava offers a special 45-minute lunchtime Fleet! sessions that will get students fit, flexible, and back to work on time. Nava also has a Yoga Wall to help students build confidence and practice inversions safely, as well as offering a six-week Beginners Series with enrollment via their website (next series starts in September).

“Managing stress and encouraging a healthy work/life balance are proven to be critical in retaining an energized workforce that excels creatively,” says Kayla. To meet this need, Nava Yoga Center provides several programs to partner with Navy Yard organizations that promote employee wellness, improve employees’ health habits, and their overall Navy Yard experience. As Biz explains, “Our approach is very ‘functional,’ meaning it’s not intended to make you look a certain way, but to feel better all of the time. You will be able to do your job, at work or at home, with energy, a full range of motion, and injury-free.”

In naming their yoga center after the sanskrit word for 'boat', the Nava team seeks to honor The Navy Yard's rich history and bright future.

In naming their yoga center after the sanskrit word for ‘boat’, the Nava team seeks to honor The Navy Yard’s rich history and bright future. Navasana in yoga means ‘boat pose,’ which is a core strengthening posture, further reflecting the yoga center’s collaboration with Building 489’s Vincera Institute in rehabilitating core muscle injuries. Biz and Kayla are inspired by The Navy Yard as a center of dynamic growth and innovation, driven by hard working individuals. “Our mission is to have ‘wellness’ be less a HR directive and more a job description. We want Nava to be the vessel through which individuals pursue clarity, balance, and well-being.”

What are you waiting for? To welcome new students, the first class at Nava is free. Students can borrow or purchase a yoga mat from the Nava store, and take advantage of the access to showers, steam room, sauna, and the forthcoming Galley Cafe.
