Summer officially started with the inaugural Navy Yard Family Fest June 1. Thousands of kids, adults, and kids at heart came to the Navy Yard’s award-winning park – Central Green – for a fun-filled and unforgettable start to summer.

Attendees were immersed in magical day of Navy Yard entertainment by sampling delicious food from the area’s best food trucks, dancing to live music, and participating in a ton of family-friendly events, but the highlight of the day was a special appearance by the Phillie Phanatic.

This free and open-to-the-public event was an example of the many different activities and programs happening at the Navy Yard. The Navy Yard has more than 20 acres of open-to-the-public parks and greenspaces for all to enjoy, which are open from sunrise to sunset seven days a week.

The Navy Yard is home to more than 150 businesses and more than 15,000 employees. With the Navy Yard Plan, an additional 12,000 more employees are expected to come to the campus in the next 15-20 years and more than 600 residential units are expected to open in the fall of 2025.
