If your dog could pick the perfect place for a day out, there’s a good chance they’d choose somewhere with plenty of room to roam.

This National Dog Day on August 26, we’re celebrating our four-legged friends and the spaces around the Navy Yard where they can enjoy a little more room to run, walk, and explore.

With more than 20 acres of parks and green space, the Navy Yard offers something that can be hard to find in a dense urban environment: space to slow down and get outside. Whether it’s an early-morning walk before work, an afternoon stroll, a post-work reset, or a weekend outing with the whole family, there’s room here to bring your dog along.

A Place with Room to Roam

The Navy Yard may be part of Philadelphia, but it’s the perfect place to get a little breathing room.

Across the campus, parks, lawns, and open spaces create opportunities to step outside and explore. For dog owners, that can mean swapping the sidewalk for a longer walk through the Yard or finding a spot to take a break together.

And you don’t have to work here to enjoy it.

Bring your dog for a weekend walk. Meet a friend for a stroll. Bring the kids and make an afternoon of it. Or stop by after work and let your pup get some energy out before heading home.

The Navy Yard gives Philadelphia families and their four-legged companions a place to get outside without having to travel far beyond the city.

Where Dogs Are Part of the Workplace, Too

While the Navy Yard’s parks and green spaces are open for everyone to enjoy, one Navy Yard company has taken its love of dogs a step further.

When Urban Outfitters (URBN) chose the Navy Yard for its headquarters in 2006, its employees’ dogs became part of the campus experience, too. More than two decades later, bringing your dog to work remains one of the perks of working at URBN’s Navy Yard campus.

The pups have become familiar faces around the buildings, and especially around lunchtime, you’ll often find plenty of them enjoying URBN’s dog parks and green spaces alongside their owners.

For employees, having their dogs nearby can make the workday a little easier and a lot more fun.

“Bringing my dog, Petey, to work gives me so much peace of mind. Knowing he’s content and snuggled in a bed under my desk, or on a coworker’s lap makes me so happy!”

–Courtney Kehr, URBN

URBN’s dog-friendly campus is one example of how the Navy Yard’s open space can become part of the everyday experience of working here. With room to step outside, take a walk, or give your pup a chance to stretch their legs, dogs aren’t just visitors to the campus; for some employees, they’re part of the workday.

Make a Day of It

National Dog Day is a great excuse to get outside and explore the Navy Yard with your best friend.

Start the morning with a walk through the campus. Stop for coffee or a bite to eat. Find a green space to relax. Come back after work for a change of scenery. Or make a weekend visit and bring the whole family along.

With more than 20 acres of parks and green space to explore, there’s plenty of room to make your own adventure.

And who knows? You might even make a few new friends along the way, two-legged and four-legged alike.

Grab the leash. Get outside. Explore the Navy Yard.

Because sometimes the best way to spend a day in the city is to find a little more space.
