John Grady, President of PIDC, welcomed the group, and Prema Katari Gupta, Senior Vice President, Navy Yard Planning, Management, and Operations at PIDC, provided a brief recap of the year. Nine organizations made the decision to locate and grow their business at the Navy Yard this past year, bringing the total count of companies to over 155 with more than 13,500 employees!

Other organizations have been rapidly expanding, including Coriell Life Sciences, WuXi AppTec, and the U.S. Navy and its related defense contractors. Major accomplishments included the installation of Navy Yard Community Solar and Peaking Plant. We’re also looking forward to the completion of the Langley Avenue construction project later this summer, as well adding additional transit buses to handle record-breaking ridership in our newly wrapped Navy Yard Transit buses!

Councilman Kenyatta Johnson and Harold T. Epps, Director of Commerce at the City of Philadelphia, were featured speakers at this year’s event. Councilman Johnson reiterated that the Navy Yard continues to be an extraordinary story of the most successful Navy base redevelopment in the country, while Harold Epps reflected on the Navy Yard’s position in the Philadelphia economy. He said, “At a regional level, Philadelphia has high success in retaining talent and recruiting from around the world.” The Navy Yard and its affiliated companies add to that regional success, propelling Philadelphia forward with steadfast momentum. All the Navy Yard’s organizations and its employees have been critical to shaping the Navy Yard community into an innovative, collaborative, and exciting place where people want to work and visit. PIDC is so thankful to our tenants, partners, and City government who have helped us create this amazing community! We thank everyone for attending and look forward to another terrific year.
