Summer has arrived at the Navy Yard, bringing longer days, warmer weather, and countless opportunities to get outside and explore one of Philadelphia’s most unique waterfront destinations.

Whether you’re looking to unwind after work, stay active, discover something new, or spend time with family and friends, the Navy Yard comes alive during the summer months, offering a mix of recreation, wellness, dining, and waterfront experiences all summer long.

Pool Season

One of the newest additions this season is the opening of the pool at AVE Normandy. As Philadelphia’s first luxury residential community at the Navy Yard, residents can now enjoy access to a resort-style pool and sundeck, adding another way to relax and recharge during the summer months.

Third Thursdays

Nearby, the new Chapel Plaza has quickly become a hub for gathering and connection. The plaza is home to Third Thursdays, a monthly event series running from May through October featuring live music, local food trucks, merchant vendors, giveaways, and family-friendly activities. Held from 4 to 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month, it’s the perfect excuse to stay a little longer and enjoy a summer evening at the Navy Yard.

Smell the Flowers

Beyond the waterfront views and historic architecture, the Navy Yard is also home to an unexpected urban oasis. Designated as an arboretum by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, the neighborhood is home to more than 2,000 trees and thriving garden across its 1,200 acres along the Delaware River waterfront. From peaceful lunchtime strolls to weekend picnics and dog-friendly adventures, there’s always a reason to get outside and explore.

Connect with the Community

Looking to meet new people or try something new this summer? Wellness Wednesdays, hosted in partnership with Alchemy X, bring free outdoor Yoga Flow and Mat Pilates classes to League Island Park throughout the season. Runners can join the growing Navy Yard Running Club, while Gatehouse offers a welcoming spot to gather with coworkers and friends for happy hour, outdoor dining, or Quizzo.

New Waterfront Park

This summer also marks the opening of Pier 1 Park, the Navy Yard’s newest public park along the Delaware River waterfront. To celebrate, we’re taking Lunch Truck Lineup to the park on July 2, featuring EL TLALOC, Jerk King Caribbean Feast, ice cream, and free swag. Visitors can also check out the park’s new Little Free Library, making it easy to grab a book, find a seat by the water, and unwind.

More On the Pop-Up Event

From waterfront walks and outdoor fitness classes to live entertainment and new public spaces, there’s no shortage of ways to make the most of summer at the Navy Yard.
