On Thursday, April 23, we had the pleasure of welcoming families to our 7th Annual Bring Your Child to Work Day! The day was filled with energy, curiosity, and plenty of hands-on fun as kids got a close-up of the Navy Yard and participated in a variety of engaging activities.

We kicked off the day with a petting zoo, where children had the chance to meet and interact with a variety of friendly animals. Did you see that one of the chickens laid an egg right on the Marine Parade Grounds? Peaceable Kingdom Zoo was an instant hit and set a fun tone for the rest of the day.

Additionally, throughout the day, kids enjoyed the inflatable baseball game, giving them the chance to play and burn off energy between sessions. The laughter and excitement carried across the event.

One of the day’s biggest highlights was the Honeybee Session, from the Navy Yard’s own Half Mad Honey. The kids got a close-up look at a real live beehive, and they drew beautiful pictures of bees.

We had several morning workshops that offered something for every interest and gave kids the opportunity to learn while having fun:

  • Honeybee Workshop (Half Mad Honey) – Participants explored the fascinating world of bees and learned about their importance to our environment.
  • Five Senses Workshop (Black Girls with Green Thumbs) – Kids got hands-on experience with herbs and fruit using their senses– Smell, Taste, See, Touch, Hear.
  • Snapology: Building a City – Creativity and collaboration were on full display as kids designed and built their own Lego cities.
  • Alchemy X Kids Yoga Session – This session provided a calming break, introducing kids to movement and mindfulness in a fun, accessible way.

And as always, Hanwha Philly Shipyard put the kids’ engineering skills to the test with their “ship-building” activity. Using aluminum foil and pennies, they designed boats sturdy enough to float while holding as many coins as possible. The results were impressive, and the friendly competition made it even more exciting.

From start to finish, Bring Your Child to Work Day 2026 was a wonderful celebration of learning, creativity, and community. It was a joy to see our campus through the eyes of the next generation, and we’re grateful to everyone who helped make the day such a success.

We look forward to continuing this tradition and creating even more memorable experiences in the years to come!
