Recently celebrating its two and a half year anniversary, Mercer Café at the Navy Yard just announced that it will begin to offer dinner service on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights, as well as adding a long awaited breakfast/brunch service on Saturday mornings. As always, diners are welcome to “BYOB,” or bring your own bottle.
Originally a coffee shop and ice cream parlor in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia, owners Tom Woltjen, Sr., and his wife, Dina, grew Mercer Cafe into a local institution, serving homemade family recipes to its loyal customers.
With the success of the first Mercer Cafe, Tom brought in the next generation, with his son Thomas Woltjen and daughter Liza Bello joining to help run the operations at the new location, which opened in 2015. Liza is a graduate of Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Small Businesses , an investment to help entrepreneurs create jobs and economic opportunity by providing greater access to education, capital and business support services. Mercer Café is also a PIDC client.
Mercer Café at the Navy Yard remains a family-owned and operated business that serves breakfast, lunch, and now dinner located at 15th & Kitty Hawk Avenue. They are best known for their famous chicken cutlet sandwiches, crab cakes, cream chipped beef, and brick oven pizza.
