This spring, leaders from the PIDC Navy Yard team joined two industry events that brought together leaders from across Greater Philadelphia to discuss the forces shaping the region’s economy. Across both conversations, they shared a perspective informed by the Navy Yard’s continued growth as a major employment center and hub for investment.

In May, nearly 350 construction and development professionals gathered for the General Building Contractors Association Spring Membership Dinner. As part of the evening’s program, a panel discussion titled “The Future of Philadelphia’s Economy: Investment, Infrastructure, and Opportunity” explored the conditions driving growth across the region.
During the conversation, Kate McNamara, Executive Vice President of the Navy Yard, spoke to the campus’s ongoing evolution and its role in supporting job creation and economic activity citywide. Set within a broader discussion on infrastructure and investment, her remarks pointed to the importance of sustained development, access to capital, and long-term planning in shaping a pipeline of activity.
That perspective carried into early June, when Dylan Langley, Vice President, Navy Yard Leasing & Development at PIDC, participated in the NAIOP Greater Philadelphia Executive Speaker Series, “The Navy Yard: An Ecosystem in Motion” at the Navy Yard’s first luxury apartments, AVE Normandy. The event brought together organizations from across the campus—Ensemble, Orchestra Life Sciences, Hanwha Philly Shipyard, and the Naval Surface Warfare Center Philadelphia Division—to examine the factors behind its continued evolution.

As part of the panel, the Navy Yard was discussed as an ecosystem shaped by a diverse mix of industries, including advanced manufacturing, life sciences, hospitality, defense, maritime, and more. The conversation emphasized how this concentration of sectors supports job creation, encourages collaboration, and contributes to long-term stability.
Across both engagements, Navy Yard leaders contributed to broader industry conversations while connecting them to activity taking place on campus. Together, these discussions reflect how Philadelphia’s economy continues to be shaped by places where investment, infrastructure, and industry align, and by the work taking place to support that progress.
