Get the autumn season started on Saturday, September 21 at the PHS Fall Garden Festival on the Marine Parade Grounds at The Navy Yard. Hosted by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, the free festival, which runs from 10 am – 7 pm, will offer great shopping, gardening demonstrations, live entertainment, local food and a beer garden, harvest contests, and exciting activities for the kids.
The annual festival will host an array of exciting new offerings, including a PHS City Harvest Market where guests can purchase fantastic local produce; interactive DIY demonstrations and a special Make & Take activity space; a 6ABC Scarecrow Challenge giveaway on the main stage; a sneak peek of the 2014 PHS Philadelphia Flower Show, “ARTiculture;” and a Harvest Happy Hour from 4 – 7 pm.
The PHS Fall Garden Festival is an event for guests of all ages, and the newly enhanced PHS Kids Zone will make the day extra special for the little ones. Start the day with a Zen session hosted by Nava Yoga Center (whose studio is located at 1200 Constitution Ave at The Navy Yard), get creative with the Young Rembrandts artists, soar sky high in bucket trucks with Bartlett Tree Experts, or stick to the always popular veggie races and pumpkin-painting activities. There will also be a very special performance by the Philadelphia-based music sensations, The Plants, starting at noon.
In addition to the lively entertainment and demonstrations, the PHS Fall Garden Festival is the place to purchase plants and plan your next gardening project. The Marketplace will feature plants, tools, garden accessories, home décor, craft items, and keepsakes from the PHS Philadelphia Flower Show. Visitors can also shop at the PHS Store for unusual varieties of succulents and tropical indoor plants from PHS Meadowbrook Farm in Abington Township.
PHS Members receive a range of exclusive benefits at the event including free plants, a 10% shopping discount at the PHS Store, and a free bulb! Join on-site and learn more about PHS Member benefits year-round. For more information, go to PHSonline.org.
