The warm and sunny summer days descending on Philadelphia push the memories of the long and tough winter into the back of our minds. With the nice weather, The Navy Yard urges employees to get out and have fun with a variety of events in the coming months as part of #TNYsummer!
The Navy Yard 5k
The Navy Yard is proud to present the inaugural Navy Yard 5k! This fun, free, and scenic 5k run will take place at The Navy Yard on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, rain or shine. The race is open only to employees of The Navy Yard. In addition to the race, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, a health fair will take place in Crescent Park, featuring several Navy Yard tenants sharing how to educate and improve on all aspects of workplace health, wellness, nutrition, fitness, and lifestyle. Whether you participate as a runner or as a spectator, we will have 5k swag and snacks for you! We hope to see you there! The event is FREE, but you must pre-register by Friday, June 6th at bit.ly/thenavyyard5k.

The Navy Yard’s Urban Riding Basics Class
In conjunction with GSK and the Bicycle Coalition of Philadelphia, The Navy Yard hosted the first Urban Riding Basics Class on May 19th . A few dozen participants stopped by Five Crescent Drive for a brown bag lunch to learn how to begin bicycling safely around town, including topics like rules of the road, lane position, urban hazards, helmets and gear, locking a bike, and using a bike on public transportation. We hope to see the class participants riding their bikes to work or around The Navy Yard!
The Navy Yard blood drive
Lastly, The Navy Yard hosted another American Red Cross Blood Drive at the Courtyard by Marriott on June 18th. More than 29 units of blood were collected – with each pint going on to save three lives! Thank you to all the donors. If you missed it, The Navy Yard plans to host another drive this fall.
