Categories: Events,

This is an important notice about the Papal visit and how it affects The Navy Yard. It is long but detailed, so please read it carefully and let us know if you have any questions or concerns. In short, The Navy Yard will remain OPEN to employees with your Navy Yard ID, and visitors on foot or bike. Shuttles will be on a limited schedule on Friday and Monday, and street parking is limited beginning Friday. Last updated: 09/23/15.

We are finalizing our preparations for the Papal Visit and again would like to follow up on information we have shared previously, and also provide a link to one of the most comprehensive pages for information on this week’s events including shuttle transit, removal of vehicles from certain streets, and most importantly getting the most from this week’s events.

As previously indicated, The Navy Yard will be open to all employees this weekend with a Navy Yard ID badge. There may be brief instances where employees are delayed in accessing The Navy Yard upon arrival to the gates, due to police presence from activities critical to the weekend’s events being hosted at The Navy Yard. Our security staff will be on hand at all gates to ensure your access and communicate any brief delays, and we appreciate your patience if you are delayed.

Please make sure you have your badge when you arrive at The Navy Yard, no vehicles will be allowed in unless they are properly credentialed. If you have any concerns regarding this policy, please contact our Security office at 215-989-1175. This policy is to prevent The Navy Yard from becoming a public parking lot as thousands of vehicles are expected to descend on the stadium parking areas beginning early Saturday morning.

On Friday, September 25th and Monday, September 28th, schedules will be truncated as follows. We will resume normal shuttle service on Tuesday, September 29th.

• Normal schedule until 5:00 p.m. The last run will depart League Island Blvd. & Crescent Dr. at 5:07 p.m. (last stop in The Navy Yard is the Broad Street Gate at approximately 5:18 p.m.)

• Two shuttles on Friday and Monday, which will depart approximately every 15 minutes from League Island Blvd. and Crescent Dr. stop.
• Friday: The first run will be at 7:00 a.m. and the last run will be at 5:00 p.m. (leaves the Broad Street Gate stop at approximately 5:04 p.m.)
• Monday: The first run will be at 7:00 a.m. and the last run will be at 7:30 p.m. (leaves the Broad Street Gate stop at approximately 7:34 p.m.)

All vehicles, trailers and other items must be removed from the following streets by 5:00 p.m. Friday, September 25th. If you need place to park a vehicle, please contact the Management Office at 215-218-9750.

Thank you for your cooperation this weekend and for helping us host this great event for the City of Philadelphia. For all other information about the Papal Visit, has great information on the World Meeting of Families’ weekly events, street closures, transit, etc.:

UPDATE  FOR 09/15/15: As part of the ongoing preparations for the visit by Pope Francis to Philadelphia, PIDC and CBRE have been closely coordinating with various agencies to understand the impact on our businesses at The Navy Yard. At this time, we want to share what we are aware of so that you can continue to make plans and preparations for the period of Thursday, September 24 through Monday, September 28, but be aware that this information is changing on an almost daily basis.

The City of Philadelphia has released detailed plans regarding road closures and Center City areas that will be secured, and those secure areas will not impact The Navy Yard directly. However, the road closures include significant vehicular arteries, such as I-76, I-676, and the Ben Franklin Bridge, so access to The Navy Yard will be impacted depending on your direction of travel. Note, that officials have advised us that traffic in our immediate area over the weekend may be so congested on 95 as to make travel to the campus a Herculean effort.

Given that the details are being released weekly, please visit the World Meeting of Families’ website for additional details:

Know that The Navy Yard will remain open to all employees throughout the week and weekend in question. However, employees MUST have their ID badge in order to access The Navy Yard on Saturday and Sunday, as vehicle access will be restricted.  There will be no exceptions to this policy.  Note that bicycles and pedestrians will be allowed in without badges.  This policy is to prevent The Navy Yard from becoming an ancillary parking lot for the general public attending the weekend’s festivities.

Further, all vehicles must be removed from the following streets by Friday, September 25th at 5:00 p.m., as all vehicles/trailers remaining will be relocated by a private towing company. If you have any questions and/or need a place to park your vehicle that weekend, please contact the Management Office at 215-218-9750.

Further, we believe we will not be able to efficiently run The Navy Yard’s Express Shuttles to Center City on Friday, September 25th, and Monday, September 28th due to the traffic restrictions described by the City of Philadelphia. Please have your employees plan their commute using only Broad Street line subway to AT&T Station on Friday and Monday. We will run extra buses to and from AT&T Station both days. We will continue to monitor the traffic and road closures and update the shuttle schedules for both days on Tuesday September 22nd.

As additional details are released, we will update this advisory with as many details as we can over the coming week. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this time.
