Skills Initiative at the Navy Yard is now accepting applications for our next partnership with Hanwha Philly Shipyard for the Welder Training Program until Friday, July 24 at 5:00 PM.

What is the Welder Training Program?

The welder training program was designed to prepare job seekers with the skills and knowledge needed to excel as welders at Hanwha Philly Shipyard’s industrial shipbuilding site located at the Navy Yard. Program participants will actively engage in comprehensive training, including 2 weeks of professional development, 4 weeks of classroom instruction on ship orientation and shop math, and 8 weeks of hands-on welding training.

In this program, we offer:

  • Opportunity to earn a full-time Welder position at HPSI starting at $26/hour based on experience
  • Competitive benefits for full-time employees
  • A $150 weekly stipend during the first six weeks and a $300 weekly stipend during the eight weeks of technical training
  • Proven job placement support, with 90% of graduates securing employment

Eligibility Requirements

  • At least one year of professional welding experience
  • Philadelphia resident
  • High school diploma or GED
