The Navy Yard has an exciting announcement for Earth Day: we are now the largest LEED Neighborhood Development in the country!

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, certification recognizes resiliency in building and construction. LEED certification means a building or project has met robust criteria for environmental performance, occupant health, and resource efficiency.

The Navy Yard certification effort, led by Ensemble/Mosaic and PIDC, encompasses the past 25 years of vision and collaboration and the next 25 years as we continue to implement the 2022 Navy Yard Plan to transform the Navy Yard into a model for resilient urban development—bringing together community, green infrastructure, and innovation across 295 acres and 77 buildings.

What does this mean for the Navy Yard?  LEED-ND certification isn’t just about buildings—it’s about creating a healthier, smarter, more connected way to live. The Navy Yard’s scale allows for real environmental impact—reducing energy use, improving air and water quality, and cutting carbon emissions.

But it also makes life better for the people who work, live, and play at the Navy Yard: walkable streets, abundant green space, thoughtfully designed infrastructure, and a dynamic mix of places to live, work, and play. It’s a neighborhood built not just for today—but for decades to come.

This milestone is part of the Navy Yard’s 25 years of transformation from a closed naval base into a vibrant community. Together, PIDC and Ensemble/Mosaic are poised to continue this momentum with an ambitious 20-year plan to bring 8 million square feet of LEED-certified residential, R&D, office, retail, and hospitality space to life.
