A New Chapter for the Navy Yard Shuttle: Partnership with Yankee Line

September 5, 2025

Starting October 1, Yankee Line will operate the Navy Yard Transit shuttle service, bringing their expertise and commitment to high-quality service to our campus.

As the Navy Yard continues to expand, reliable and accessible transit options are more important than ever. Every day, Navy Yard Transit shuttle services connect approximately 1,300 riders on the Express Route to Jefferson Station and the Broad Street Line on the Loop.

As we continue our efforts to improve quality and reliability, our transit network is ready for its next step forward with Yankee Line, a transportation leader with more than 40 years of experience serving cities like Boston, New York, and Philadelphia.

What Riders Can Expect

While the core routes, stops, and schedules will remain the same for now, Yankee Line will be working with PIDC and the Navy Yard’s companies to take Navy Yard Transit to the next level. Here’s what’s coming:

  • Enhanced Service: The Center City Express Monday and Friday schedule will be the same as the Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday schedule. The routes and stops will remain the same.
  • A Brand New Fleet: Modern, higher-capacity buses driven by highly trained, professional drivers.
  • Art on the Move: Fresh designs by a well-known Philadelphia artist to give the fleet a vibrant new look. Here’s a sneak peak at the design (image to the right).
  • Opportunities for Feedback: A dedicated email and phone number displayed on all buses for riders to provide immediate feedback. Annual surveys for rider feedback to help shape the future of Navy Yard Transit.
  • Meet Yankee Line: Representatives from Yankee Line will be present at Navy Yard bus stops between October 1-7. Come say hi and make your voice heard by providing feedback and suggestions for the service.

On the Horizon

We will be introducing these changes:

  • Improved Rider Experience: Enhanced technology in the existing Navy Yard Transit app for real-time tracking of buses and improved communications directly to riders.
  • Fare Validation: Riders will be expected to show a Navy Yard employee badge or fare to the driver starting October 1. If you are employed by a Navy Yard-based company and don’t have a badge, you can go to the Allied security office located at 4500 South Broad Street to get a Navy Yard badge.
  • Fare Increase: Fare will now be $2.90 a ride.
